GB signs the UN Women's Empowerment Principles

The UN Women’s Empowerment Principles promote gender equality and encourage women in the workplace, marketplace, and communities.

Grupo Bimbo, the world's leading bakery company, has signed on to support the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), which provide guidelines for companies to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in the workplace, marketplace, and community. GB’s support of Women’s Empowerment represents a further example of the company's ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The Women’s Empowerment Principles include seven facets: high-level corporate leadership; fair treatment of all women and men at work without discrimination; health, welfare, and safety of associates; education and training for career advancement; business development, supply chain, and marketing practices; community initiatives and advocacy; and measurement and reporting.

Through these principles, Grupo Bimbo will work continuously to meet the following goals by 2030:

  1. Show significant progress in gender equality globally, maintaining a 40% representation of female talent in leadership positions.
  2. Have at least one project of economic autonomy per organization focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  3. Ensure all internal and external marketing and communication strategies reflect the diversity of the communities in which we operate.
  4. Address gender sensitivity and eradicate harassment, discrimination, and other forms of gender-based violence in the workplace.
  5. Promote education and awareness of gender issues among teams and business partners.

"Gender equality is not only a goal but a fundamental principle that companies must promote to build spaces where all people have equal opportunities to reach their full potential. We are proud to join the UN Women's Empowerment Principles globally, as it endorses our commitment to accelerate the construction of a more equitable world" Daniel Servitje, CEO of Grupo Bimbo.

Previously, Grupo Bimbo had signed these principles locally in countries such as Mexico, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina, and Chile.

At a global level, Grupo Bimbo promotes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through a range of projects and initiatives. These include: DEI seminars to raise awareness among the workforce; Leadership Circles, a mentoring and support program to encourage development of female talent in leadership positions, based on Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In methodology; a Central Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to follow up on the strategy's objectives and share best practices; and mentoring and support programs for the accelerated development of women leaders, among others.
