Grupo Bimbo and Save the Children Invite Donations to Support People Affected by the Earthquakes in Venezuela
Grupo Bimbo and Save the Children invite people to donate to strengthen the humanitarian response to the emergency in Venezuela and support those affected on their path to recovery following the earthquakes that struck on June 24.
Grupo Bimbo will match donations made through www.emergenciahumanitaria.mx up to USD 1 million, with the goal of expanding the impact of the initiative and supporting affected communities. Donations can be made starting from 100 Mexican pesos or 5 U.S. dollars.
The initiative aims to support people affected by the earthquakes, including Grupo Bimbo associates in Venezuela. For Grupo Bimbo, this effort is rooted in a 33-year relationship with Venezuela, where it operates bakeries and sales centers and employs more than 400 associates.
Save the Children, an international organization with more than a century of history and operations in over 100 countries, has been working in Venezuela since 2018 with a team of more than 80 people and six local partner organizations. Since 2020, it has reached more than 270,000 people in the country.
"Every day that passes, families in Venezuela need more helping hands to support them. This partnership with Grupo Bimbo allows us to reach people faster and farther, bringing them the protection and care they deserve during this crisis," said Dirk Glas, CEO of Save the Children Mexico.
"Venezuela has been part of Grupo Bimbo’s history for 33 years. Today, that connection drives us to stand close to those who need us most. This partnership with Save the Children amplifies the impact of our commitment to affected families, as well as to our own associates," said Alejandra Ibarrola, Director of Social Impact at Grupo Bimbo.
Two powerful earthquakes struck central Venezuela on June 24, changing the lives of thousands of people in areas such as La Guaira and Caracas. Authorities have so far reported more than 3,500 fatalities and thousands of missing persons as a result of this tragedy.
Buildings and infrastructure in the hardest-hit areas were severely damaged, and many families are sleeping in tents set up in parks and streets while they await news of their loved ones and the rebuilding of their homes.
Save the Children is working on the ground alongside authorities and partner organizations to protect people during this crisis. The organization is distributing hygiene kits and essential supplies, providing primary healthcare through mobile clinics, and establishing safe spaces to support the mental health and well-being of children.
